CHT Heavy Duty Sensor | 2021

I had two of these break shortly after bending them to better fit in the area available on the cylinder head. (Both were the straight kind and I bent them to about a 60 degree angle.) This last time I instead cut out a fin from the cylinder head so that bending wasn't necessary. I then ran the wire through a hole I drilled in the backside of the plastic cooling shroud. I was super careful to ensure that there wasn't too much slack on the wire or too little before zip-tying to the frame and finishing the run to the ignition wire. This approach has been working for several hours, so I'm hopeful that I finally have it solved.

It does show temperature, but there's got to be something wrong in the design. Maybe if it were 90 degrees like the photo and smaller it would be more durable. It must be vibration, this is the second thermocouple to snap on me in 3 hours. This time it went through my prop. Not getting another. Just keeping the thing on there for RPM and TOT now.

I have bought 3ea of these and they have all broke. The probes sold now are nothing like the picture they have to be bent up if you have the cooling shroud. Probe always breaks at the bend. They are not the riveted design in the picture.

As anyone who has used the trail tech gauges knows the sensors suck but if your willing to change sensors every few hours they work.
